Time for a little catch up. Knitting FOs first. Above is The Thirteenth Doctor, made for my Doctor Who fan daughter. The Thirteenth Doctor Who is the first female Doctor, and apparently she wore a scarf of many colors like this in at least one of the episodes. Corkscrew fringe is such fun to do. Finished just in time for it to be too warm out to wear.
On a whim I picked up Lion Brand Shawl in a Cake, then searched for a project that used it. This is #02 Crescent Shawl by Zabeth Loisel-Weiner. Lace and I usually don't get along, but this was such an easy lace pattern that I whipped it out in just over 2 weeks. Another shawl to be added to the pile of things I make but don't wear.
One major change in my life, and a sad one, is that I've resigned from the knitting guild of which I've been a member for 26 years. The guild was a monthly staple. Over the years I served stints as Secretary and three times as Newsletter Editor, which I very much enjoyed. Besides all I've learned about the craft, the retreats and yarn stores we've visited, and the designers we've hosted, I've made some life-long friends. We'll still be meeting monthly outside of the guild. I won't go into specifics about my reasons for resigning, except to say that the board that has been in place the last two years has changed the tone of the guild so that it is no longer a pleasure to attend.
In September 2016, shortly after I retired, the CD player in my car broke, and I could no longer listen to books while driving. This greatly reduced the number of books I read, but it did get me into listening to NPR. ( Fortuitously it was the perfect time for it to happen, with the political situation as it was and is, as the programs keep me informed of all the issues. And I discovered Jim and Margery, whom I love.) I recently joined Audible, so I can still officially call the blog audioknits, and am back to reading more books both in print and by ear. I can plug my phone in and listen in the car again, or at home while knitting. The only downside is that I have to pay for it, whereas my library audios were free.
Well I did plan to write more, but it's already taken me three days to get this far so I'll save it for later. Plus, I just found out today that Jill Lepore will be speaking nearby this evening, so I'm going! I'm in the middle of listening to These Truths, and have bought the book too, so I'll have her sign it.
These Truths is excellent.

Know what you mean about moving on from a group. I left our local knitting group here. The dynamics seemed unhealthy and in this case the tension and the knitting didn’t work well together.
I’m an on and off again audible member, listening while walking. I stock up my library where there are specials, then put my membership on hold. I’ve found that on Amazon’s Kindle Daily Deals there are often options to add the audible version for $1.99.
Nice to catch up.
