I've been knitting without full rhyme or reason, leaving a swath of UFOs in the wake. Jig has been in the Ravelry queue since Christmas Day, 2011. I bought madelinetosh Pashmina for it, on sale from Webs last year, in a scrumptious blue. It was my first time knitting with 'madtosh', and won't be the last.
It took just over 2 weeks to complete. Love it! Garter stitch and short rows, and the bonus is, you don't need to pick up the wraps in garter stitch because they don't show.
Lots of ways to wear it. Btw, I made a major mistake at the beginning and didn't bother to fix it, and it looks fine!
Another horrid mass shooting in America. Dear Australian knit-blogger friend Cindy emailed me:
Dear Kristen, we are thinking of you, what a difficult time this must be for you and your group of gun control people. I can only offer you our support, and the hope that one day someone will have the courage to change the gun laws. Lots of love and Labrador wiggly waggly tails, Cindy, Lorelai Gilmore and Hedy; the Golden Labradors
My response:
Dear Cindy,
Thank you so much for your kind concern, my friend. It is just horrible that many in Congress are in the pockets of the NRA, and that citizens who rabidly defend the right to own any and all guns, keep blocking efforts to pass sensible gun laws.
The ray of light in my state of Rhode Island which I blogged about last post is that after 3 years of lobbying, we passed a law to remove firearms from those convicted of domestic abuse. There is a very high correlation of mass shooters having previous domestic violence records, and I've read reports where this newest killer probably has a history of it as well.
After every murderous atrocity I, and many Americans, think this will be the last straw and Congress will finally act. But I know it's not going to happen unless citizens speak out and get out and demand change, rather than just sitting at home and wringing their hands.
You will be proud to know how often Australia is brought up in the news as model of sanity when it comes to gun laws. Thank you again for offering your love and support.
Love,
Kristen
Dear Kristen, I hope that mere words might bring you some comfort. We are proud of our gun laws, but there are those who want to water them down, so we are being alert, and not alarmed. You have done a fantastic job, so keep it up. Thoughts and prayers don’t save lives, but your actions will.
Oh, what a gorgeous shawl and what a bonus that you don’t have to worry about the wraps. Mind you, all I can think of is fat pigs!! Nice modelling too.
