D had the week off last week so we decided to take a day trip somewhere we'd never been- Martha's Vineyard. (Coincidentally it was the same week President Obama and family started their vacation there, . We didn't run into them.) We took the fast ferry from Quonset, and when we got to the island took a 2.5 hour bus tour to get the lay of the land. It was an interesting tour.
Once it was over and we were back at Oak Bluffs, we walked around and saw the Flying Carousel, the Gingerbread Cottages, and the miles-long public beach.
My favorite cottage- note the sign: 'Two Bad Cats'!
There are several restaurants and souvenir and gifty shops in the town, but once you eat and if you have a husband like mine who hates shops, and you're not going to the beach, well, there isn't much to do. So we ended up taking the 3:30 ferry home instead of the 7:30 ferry. Cross Martha's Vineyard off the bucket list.
This may look like a sweet innocent kitten:
But Billie was very naughty this morning. I was downstairs and not really paying attention when I realized that I'd heard the cat door in action, and Tuffy (the big guy and only one allowed out at present) was already outside. I realized I hadn't closed up the cat door for the day. So I closed it up and went on the deck to capture 2 little kittens, as Gus had followed his sister. About 10 minutes later, with Gus playing in the dining room, I heard mewing from the deck- Billie was out again! I opened the door and she hopped in. Checked the cat door- still closed and locked. A short time later I see Tuffy sitting on the porch with a smug tattle-tale look on his face- Billie was out Again! I went out to get her and she ran off the deck. It was then I noticed the screen of one of the deck windows had been pushed out! I closed and locked the window, and then Billie led me a merry chase around the yard. Tuffy was doing his darndest to be helpful in the most unhelpful way- trotting to me whenever I shook the food bag to entice Billie, trotting to me whenever I tried to approach her...Finally had him follow me and the food bag into the house so he would be out of my way, and then I eventually got the kitten in. Kids!!!
The left front of Dodgson is done. When setting it out for the photo I noticed the unsightly dark round blotch of pooling in the upper center. I'll try some duplicate stitching to make it disappear.
I laughed at your kitten emergency and Tuffy's help!! Those kittens are too smart. I love the cottages and The Obama's must have been miffed not to have caught up with you!!!
