The garden, our first in several years, is doing so well. When I gather a bowlful like this, I often just chop everything up, saute it with olive oil and garlic, add herbs, and eat it as is or toss it over pasta- to die for. The yellow tomato is a Yellow Brandywine- delicious! And they grow huge. Yesterday I made salsa with whatever tomatoes were ripe, and there will be plenty more to come.
Greek salad with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes is another favorite.
There have been some disappointments. I planted 4 or 5 types of squash and melon and they were hit by powdery mildew. We got a lot of cucumbers before they were hit too. Next year I'll follow advice for how to combat that.
When K and I went to the Westerly Library book sale, I bought these cook booklets for 25 cents each:
The Greek one especially has some recipes for the garden bounty.
I also picked up Helen Keller's The Story of My Life-so interesting and well written. I didn't realize she was only 23 when it was published. She had a lot more life ahead of her then.
D and I strolled around the Washington County Fair yesterday and had our fair food fix. I snapped one photo of this happy sleeping pig.
One of the young people who sort of lives in our house came home from a road trip with boxes of tomatoes and peaches from an organic farm. I made Greek tomato sauce for future moussaka and peach pie filling. Yumm.

That's a nice pig, and what a good harvest from your garden. Vegetable seedlings come to our house to die...
