Our long weekend getaway was blessed with beautiful weather. On the way up to the White Mountain region we stopped for a tour of the Canterbury Shaker Village. This is one of the huge sugar maples that was planted by early villagers. Though the Shakers more or less segregated themselves from 'The World', they did embrace the newest technologies that came along to assist them in their labor and craftsmanship. I bought a pattern for a traditional Shaker sweater in the gift shop, and already have the Harrisville wool that was displayed with it in my stash. There isn't a picture with the pattern but it will probably look much like this version.
On Labor Day we headed up the Mount Washington Auto Road on the motorcycle. As I said, the weather was beautiful but the mornings were cold! Though I had a sweatshirt jacket layered under a windbreaker, my teeth were chattering uncontrollably as we headed there. Mr. Heated Handlebar Grips finally got out one of his spare jackets, which helped a lot though I could barely move in it or find my hands in the gorilla length sleeves. I'm surprised it looks like I'm smiling in front of this Alpine meadow; I think it was more of a catatonic state, what with the cold and the scary on the edge of death portions of the road. It was actually pretty mellow at the top, without the signature winds, and we looked down upon clouds.
Later we hiked the Flume gorge, though D groused at the $13 per person charge to take a walk in the woods. But the scenery was amazing.
When we got back home both kids were already off - K back to school and J back to California. He is working in 12 day shifts.
Since then it's been mostly work for me too. Again this week I've only knit a few rows here and there. Once I get back into the routine the knitting will hopefully increase.
I visited those places when I was 11. Too bad the Old Man in the Mountain isn't there anymore.

Looks like you had a beautiful weekend, even if it was too cold. The Shaker sweater will fix that! I hope you're able to get in some good knitting time soon.

Wow, what beautiful photographs! What color is the yarn for the Shaker pattern? It looks comfy.
