Good news - D applied for a new job last month and it is officially his! It is with the same company he has worked for for over 25 years, but he will be working out of Newport rather than Quonset. It is a salaried position (Test Engineer) and comes with a nice little salary increase. (Bet you know what I immediately thought - "More yarn!" He is likely thinking "Bigger motorcycle!"). He starts on the 20th. He is taking some days off before then or he will lose them.
We went up to Borders with my birthday certificate this morning. I bought Tracy Ullman and Mel Clark's Knit 2 Together , having previewed it on another visit and liking many of the patterns, some pictured here. I was also hoping to pick up the IK Lace Style but it wasn't there. There was nothing else in the knitting section that called out to me. I don't buy books with the words "hip, punk, grrrl, Hollywood" etc. in the title as a matter of principle. I don't need books on the basics. Or collections of patterns from magazines I already subscribe to. Or books on socks. (I was tempted by Nancy Bush's Vintage Socks , but let's face it, with my sock knitting history, that would be downright silly.) And many of the books I already own. None of the many new knitting magazines appealed to me. I already subscribe to what I consider the 3 best - IK, VK, and Knitter's.
So I ended up buying the newly published book on our hometown, part of the Images of America series. A nice little piece of history.
Today is the third blogiversary of audioknits. I think last year I forgot all about it because of my niece's wedding. No insightful reflections, just thanks to those of you who take time to read and to comment. Now I'd better go and work on Hazel so that there will be knitting content ahead.
Happy blogeversary!

Happy blogiversary! And congrats to D on the new job. Once again our paths cross - I used to work at Quonset when it was a naval base!

Hi, happy blogiversary!
I bought a copy of The Opinionated Knitter the other day on impulse. I usually don't buy knitting books this way...okay, that's not true, but the last time I bought a knitting book on impulse I was still employed so I felt less guilty about it :). The book looks like it will be a fun read though.

Happy Blogversary! Spellcheck lit up for that one. As for the knitting books with those words in the titles, I am with you on that...I can't be bothered when I see them on the shelf at the bookstore. It's too bad because they probably have some interesting stuff in them, but they dumb down on the cover.

Happy Blogiversary!! And Congratulations to D on his new job!
There really isn't much out right now in the way of knitting books -- I agree with everything you said re: intro books, socks, and things with punk and Hollywood in the title. :) I think the fall titles will be coming in the next month or two so hopefully we'll see some new books then.
