Who knew that in retirement I'd become a political ranter on Facebook? Those who are sick of it have probably blocked me by this point.
Above is the plan for a mosaic top for a pretty little table that was at my parent's bedside. I have no idea where the table came from. A lot of the examples I've seen are made with (usually purposely) broken tiles or china, but I'm taking the easy way out and using tiles from Michaels.
With advice and some disgusting starter SCOBY from friends, I'm brewing kombucha. It's supposed to be good for you. I tried the commercially bottled fizzy ginger flavor and liked it, but it's expensive, so am trying the home brewed route. I even bought a heating mat made for seedlings to speed up the fermentation process at the local 'indoor gardening' store, which I think is a euphemism for head shop.
We got a few more things for the sunroom for Tuffy to sit on:
He was outside somewhere when the couch was delivered. We literally turned our backs for a brief time and the next time we came through, there he was, settled in, with a "I know I'm not supposed to be here but what are you going to do about it" look on his face.
He also loves this chair, with its perfect round cat-cradling cushion:
So, when we're not around everything is draped in towels and blankets.
Westerly started a Huddle group for local citizens to mobilize and take action for democracy and social justice in the wake of the trump administration. There was a big turnout, and the board shows areas of concern from a brainstorming session.
You've heard of the Machiavellian plans to strip health care from the poor and elderly while lining the pockets of the gazillionaires; to increase military spending, which already spends more than the next 7 nations COMBINED, by $54 BILLION; and defunding of programs like Meals on Wheels because "they don't show results". My late aunt was one of the thousands of elderly and disabled people who depended on MoW because she couldn't get out to the grocery store, and had difficulty preparing meals. This made me so mad I called Meals on Wheels and asked for an application to volunteer to deliver meals. This week I went on a trial run with a friend who delivers- it was fun! I wanted to do it once a week but in this area volunteers are usually once a month. So I'll be doing it the 4th Tuesday each month and said I could also substitute as needed. The coordinator already has me down to sub.
I haven't finished any projects lately but keep starting new ones. This will be Norah Gaughan's 'Full Tweed Ahead' jacket from VK Winter '00-'01. I'm using Turnberry Tweed, which the pattern called for. Some of the oldest yarn in the stash to knit one of the oldest patterns in the queue.
Kristen--it suddenly struck me (took me long enough!) that "audioknits is like an online journal. What a great concept-- pictures, thoughts, activities. A wonderful way for family and friends to follow your life. And years from now, you can read the entries like a diary (which I was never good at keeping up) and remember :)
