It will be a quiet Christmas this year. My dad and Kate and her husband will join us for a turkey dinner. John is spending his second Christmas in Alaska, sigh.
D and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary last week. Unbelievable. We went to the hotel in Newport where we spent our honeymoon. In that time it has changed from a Sheraton to a Hyatt. When we checked in we went ahead and joined the 'passport club', which earns you points and rewards. Am I glad we did. That, plus the fact that it was our anniversary, and because it appears we may have been the only customers in the joint on a Tuesday night a week before Christmas, allowed us several perks: A $25 restaurant voucher, free breakfast, and an upgrade to a two-level suite on the top floor!
The guild had its Christmas party and gift swap. I was the lucky recipient of a crocheted scarf made by Audrey F.- can you tell it was kismet that I chose it, wrapped and unseen? It perfectly matches my Lantern Moon knitting bag!
The guild is knitting items for the Holly Charette House, which provides transitional housing for homeless female veterans. I'm making A Noble Cowl using Berroco Boboli. I'm in love with this yarn, and if it ever goes on sale I'd like enough to make a sweater.
We have no specific plans for the week off. I do have a couple of knitting goals. First is to rip back the lace edging on the first sleeve of the Barton Cottage Shrug and redo, and then start (and maybe finish?) the second sleeve. And though I have too many UFOs, I want to cast on something new combining one of the oldest items in my queue with some of the oldest yarn in my stash.
Merry Christmas, and stay tuned!
Happy Anniversary, welcome to our side of 30 years.
