This weekend I took a class on thrummed mittens during Slater Mill's annual Knitting Weekend. (As a native Rhode Islander, I'm embarrassed to say this was my first time at the historic mill. I'll have to return for a tour.) Several years ago I attempted thrummed socks which were, shall we say, less than a success. But now I really know how to thrum! Sometimes you just need to see the process in person. It's fun and easy. The teacher, Helen, had mitten kits to choose from, and I chose one with two different skeins of Noro Silk Garden Light, held together, with green-blue roving for the thrums. The 3-hour class flew by, and I made it up to the thumb gusset in that time. My mitten-in-progress plus the sample mitten are at top, and some of the other students' roving and mittens below.
I've started a quickie project for a gift- the Lacy Bow-knot Scarf by Jennifer L. Jones. I'm using some pretty Crystal Palace Mikado Ribbon which was bought years ago in the sale bin at Mystic River Yarn. A perfect project to knit on Valentines Day.
Those mittens are so cute!
